What are some ways to deal with anxiety?

Alright, so I have anxiety. It’s not severe enough that I need medical help, but I feel so helpless and it just hits me all at once without warning. What could I do to relax that doesn’t involve drugs, bad or good?

There are breathing technique that work. Breathe in, hold it for a few seconds, breathe out, hold it for a few seconds, and repeat. There is also visualizing techniques too. Close your eyes and visualize a place that makes you calm. Visualize every little detail. Smells, sights, sounds, even textures of things. Other than that listening to music that you like can help. For me there are specific songs that remind me to calm down and breathe.

If you have a smartphone, there is this app that I personally love called SAM (self anxiety management) http://sam-app.org.uk/ . It's quite amazing and has a lot of tools for different kinds of anxiety at different intensities. If you don't have a phone that can download this, you could message me and I could explain some of the different things it helps me do that you could do without the app, which there are a fair amount of. It has examples of breathing exercises as well, because there are a multitude of different ones. If you ever have high intensity anxiety, than other resources tailored to that should be sought, however for an everyday sort of pang that just hits you every now and then, these are great tools for acknowledging those feelings and keeping your cool. And again, if you can't download the app, just message me and I can tell you about some of the stuff it teaches you how to do to cope.

Thank you! I try breathing anyway, but maybe I'm not doing it right. Is there a way to breathe wrong? Thanks again:)

i'd advise you to keep a diary in a private place and at the end of each day, just sit and write down everything thats on your mind, all of your thoughts, troubles and worries, no matter how small they may seem. then after each week read back what you have wrote down, you should start to see a reoccuring trend that you may not have thought was bothering you, then you need to plan out how you can resolve this issue, step by step. it feels so good to get things off your chest even if it is in a diary. also ASMR videos on youtube are very good if you can get into them, good luck!
