the competition for medicine is immence

- I am behind everyone else which decreases my chances

Today, my academic coach/teacher asked me what I wanted to study at University. She was surprised when I said that I wanted to do medicine as I had not mentioned it before ( unlike other people in year 12 who want to do medicine – they had decided months ago). She told me that I have not done relevant work experience ( which I hope to do this summer) and it seemed, even though she gave advice about studying medicine at university, that she was very doubtful that I would be successful in that. I feel like a bit of an idiot because I knew that I was capable of studying medicine for a while but I was put off by the fact that there is a lot of competition in this field.

It IS a very competitive field, lots of my friends are in med school and are having trouble ... most of them succeeded.

Think of this that way: you too are competition for others, and the only reason they might be better than you is that they might study harder. Of course, some people have a gift for certain things and are gonna get there whatever happens, but you have as many chances as most of the other students. All you need to do is figure out what you're ready to do in order to succeed. You have to understand that your social life will probably be affected by this because you will need to study A LOT. Same for leasure activities. There is no reason you might not succeed but you must be ready to make sacrifices and study hard. You must also get ready for disappointment, because that's life, sometimes you fail. But if you do everything you can to succeed, you have great chances to, indeed, succeed.

Good luck. Keep faith in you.
