Should I tell my parents about my depression and anxiety issues?

1

For over two years I’ve been suffering with depression and anxiety issues, but instead of getting better it’s getting worse. For example: I’ve started self harming more frequently and have been suicidal at various points. I’ve started to think that the only way I can get even remotely better is by seeing someone like a therapist, but to do that I’d have to tell my parents. The problem is though, I know they’d freak out majorly, so have no idea how I should tell them… or even if I should.

I think you should tell your parents. They might freak out, but it'll be better for you to tell them rather than finding out in a more serious matter. I think you might get a lot better if you tell your parents before it gets worse. I hope I helped!

Telling your parents can be super scary because it seems like it's just going to make it worse, but remember they can get you to somebody who has a lot of experience with the suffering you're experiencing and will make it all better in the end. If you're worried about how to tell them, maybe don't be super blunt about it at first. Say that maybe you are thinking about going to see a doctor because you're worried about yourself. Your parents probably want to help you but sometimes being up-front just causes them to panic too! Ease into it. I bet they'll help you out. :)

Telling your parents is the best option but do not tell them straight away but make it steadier from the start,so that they won't receive sudden shocks and will understand what you are going through..You need their support more than ever at this moment.
