Is it wrong to thoroughly enjoy reading children’s chapter books?

Ya know, the ones that aren’t more then 150 pages, that someone my age ( 19) can probably read in a few hours.

I enjoy reading them a LOT. I own a few, and like to read them over and over. I even keep one in my backpack for when i get bored. Occasionally I’ll look up a specific character to read about them.

On occasion, I’ll order a specific one off Amazon, and keep it close.

These books are typically meant fore kids half my age, and i occasionally get strange looks when I am seem reading them.

Is it wrong that I enjoy reading these books?

Hi -- I would say that this is your own unique way of comforting yourself. A way you have your own quiet time, that's all about you, and you being with yourself. The children's books facilitate you being in this state of consciousness that is basically your essence.Other people may read the Bible for the same reason, or meditate, or listen to beautiful music. The simplicity of children's books can create a sense of order and meaning in the world and safety and comfort. Many years ago I used to have these fluffy pink socks I wore that instantly created a sense of comfort and safety :-)

You're completely fine. I love children's books, even though I'm also too old for them. Children's books just have a different style to them- they're simple and fun, and the problems don't get very complicated, so they're always nice when everything else is stressful. I would also say, don't worry about the people giving you strange looks- they probably don't read at all.

Do whatever you want. You don't have to be normal.

I believe reading any book no matter what the context is good for you. For me it's a good stress reliever at work, I got a 30 minute break. so I find a nice well-lit corner and enjoy a few chapters :).

I don't think there's anything really wrong with that. I'm 18 and I love finding chapter books to read to my 4 year old niece. I also work at the library and when I find a children's chapter book that looks interesting, I sit and read it instead of working (whoops). I would just make sure to read adult books as well in order to keep your brain developing and learn vocabulary and all the stuff that reading is good for!
