Do you ever not know if you are being trolled or if the venter is serious?

About real topics, like child abuse or things of that nature. I don’t want to be rude because I’m working under the assumption that it is real, but sometimes I feel like someone is playing a cruel joke on em. Its an odd feeling, right? How do you guys proceed?

Hi Etcetera!

I appreciate your hard work and dedication, Let me remind you that none of us have the magical potion or Cupid's Arrow for every problem. You'll have to take things with a little grain of salt, and continue to proceed.

I can see how some people would take advantage of this site, Especially 12 year olds that have nothing better to do then to masterbate and laugh at people's problems.

As for identifying a troll, this will depend on your overall experience and knowledge of the situation. If the Venter tends to go off the topic easily, and starts off the conversation in a very awkward manner; Such as:

"Hi, I'm Joe... I divorced my wife, I beat my kids with a metal pan... and I'm currently drinking excessive amounts of alcohol to solve my problems"

It's very clear to tell something's very "Fishy" about the situation. Some maybe harder than others is what I'm trying to communicate to your understanding.

Overall, I think you'll just have to take it as it was mean't to be. Afterall this is the internet and you are prone to meet a troll every once in a while. Your best option is to "Flag/Repot" the individual and let the program guide you to the next available vender.

Best of Wishes!

Better to take seriously 10 trolls than to call someone telling the truth a liar, specially if it's about rape or abuse.

I had one conversation which sounded like the venter a troll, but he/she invoked some very powerful problems, so I felt compelled to take it seriously. Ultimately, if it was just a troll, all he/she got was a laugh at some pretty awful things, which aren't funny to begin with. And if the incredulous sounding story was not thought up by a troll, calling her out on it may have made him/her feel pretty bad. So I just advised as well as I could, and that was that.

Basically what amlife said, if they start off with their issue and it's pretty outlandish, it's most likely a troll. Someone with a REAL serious issue doesn't just start off with it as it takes a while to be comfortable to say it all out.
