College

I want to go to a college so I can become a vet. I already have a few colleges in mind, but I also know that in order to get admitted into this college, you need to do something animal-related.
What are some other requirements for most colleges, and what should I do that is animal-related?

Volunteer at an animal shelter? Get an internship at a vet clinic or a zoo or an animal sanctuary? Think about the things near where you live and just try applying. You never know what options are available to you until you take them.

Most veterinary programs like to see biology and chemistry in your applications - these seem to be typical requirements for post secondary veterinary programs, although vet tech programs tend to be a little lighter I think. You could work at pet stores, volunteer with rescue groups or animal education programs in the area, or some service dog training places will let you volunteer. If you have horse farms in your area, sometimes they'll take volunteers - its hard work but a lot of fun if you like animals! Some vet clinics will hire students as well, especially if you're looking to go into that sort of thing as a profession. If you're in high school, you can see if your school has a co-op program. At my school we do and you can have the option to do a placement at a vet clinic if you want.

Snail's advice is correct! I would like to add that you can also ask the schools--it just shows that you want to be successful, plus they'll know you through a brief, professional email. Doing things for the community and a strong achievement record is considered heavily (not excluding other important factors, simply stating two important ones aside from grades and test scores). Good luck! :)

Haha, well this actually relates to my situation quite a lot. I'm a vet tech major, and for experience I volunteer and intern at my local animal shelter, and I had a job as a veterinary assistant for 5 months. All helps
