That feeling when you can’t switch off at night and then struggle with sleep is horrible. Can I share what works for me? When I’m concerned about the things I’ve missed or still have to complete on that day, and this feeling keeps me awake, I’ll write them down as a list and commit to completing them the following day. This usually gives me piece of mind that they will be completed. Then I look towards meditation, either instructed or otherwise, to slow down my breathing and empty my mind. Unstructured meditation is easy, slow down your breathing, imagine yourself in a quiet and comfortable place (mine is a beach), and listen to the ambient sounds in your environment. Another option is reading a non-stimulating book before sleeping rather than looking at screens. I hope that this is of some use and that you finally managed to obtain some rest last night. Alex.
Thank you Oli, and thank you Alex. I’ll give that a try next time. I ended up just getting up and taking care of a few things, resulting in me staying up pretty late and sleeping into the afternoon, but it was my day off, so no worries.
No better way to enjoy a day off than having a massive sleep-in well into the afternoon. Hope it was reinvigorating!
